Hello to the European DSers!. My apologies, I am in Australia so my query is in English! I can't speak German! But my daughter speaks some (she has been in Germany just recently staying with various friends) so she may be able to help me if you reply in German!

A small group of us do some DSing over here in Australia. Our friend Ezza holds the Aussie record with his Opus MC3 (250mph). But I'm not so good yet, and I have a big family so I don't want to spend lots of money. Also our slopes and wind are not very good for DS, so it is unlikely that I would often get the chance to would like to buy a plane which is very nice to fly in normal frontside slope conditions, but is also able to DS up to 200mph or so, without breaking.

I have had a thread about this question: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=817025

Can I ask for your advice about European DS planes? I am searching for a special composite plane to combine the best soaring and aerobatics on the front slope, but also able to do excellent DS, but I don't expect to go over 200mph with it.

I am not keen (yet) to get an Opus. I know it's incredible for DS but I'd like something a bit lighter and more agile in lighter wind, so I can use it on more days. Possibly something like a Carbon Blade 2M, but I'd prefer a T tail or X tail. But not too expensive.

I have been looking at some European planes on the internet, especially the Pace DSE, from Lesky Composites and it looks nice but I can't find any opinions from people who have DS'ed it. Do you guys know anything about it? Is it OK for medium DS, or is it too fragile??

One problem is that with the language difference I can't do much research about European planes! If you can suggest any others I would appreciate it.

Thanks very much! Andrew von Berky, Brisbane Australia.

Dear Andrew,

first of all welcome to the forum!

I for myself do not have any experience with the Pace DSE from Daniel Lesky. I will ask him, if he might be able to write something for you here.
I do own a 'not so heavy' Opus which flies pretty good in lighter conditions. I've flown this Opus for quite some time now and am very happy with it, most of the time for front-side sloping. It only weights 1.6kg (appr. 56 oz). It has flown up to 170Mph (and survived the flight ;) ) so maybe you could get a little more speed out of it. It's also not soo expensive as the MC3 line...

Regards,

Bob

Good morning!

Also from me Andrew - welcome to to our new forum! :)

Opus:

There are more versions available!

There is a light DS CFK version (Opus-V-DS, 719 Euro), I think up to 200 mph no problem!

I´ll ask Peter http://shop.strato.de/epages/61316787.sf/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/61316787/Categories/%22Segler%20Voll%20-%20GFK%20/%20CFK%22 for more informations!

And also available by Espen Torp, worldwide shipping: http://www.et-air.com/index.cfm?id=74919

Blade CFK:

I had two, and it was really very nice to fly! Up to 200 mph ore more is no problem, easy to fly! And in Europe not very expensive, think the production is in Poland.

Here are photos of my "old" Blade DS:

Available in Europe in Italy: http://www.xmodels.it/pages-x-ger/d-x-blade.html

Carbon Blade at about 399 Euro, a very good price. Shipping to Australia ....

................................

Carbon Bird:

what i hear, very nice! Smaller, but a good sloperacer and nice for dssing! I have one, but not ready to fly ...

More later! :)

Wow, those photos of the Blade are amazing! Very strong! Yes the Carbon Blade is very high on my list. The Carbon Bird is beautiful. My good friend Sean has one and I'm very familiar with it. It's perfect. But I'd like a 2m or 2.5m plane, one piece carbon. We can get the Opus here too. There's a single glass, and double glass, but I haven't heard of the lighter carbon one, and that could be interesting.

The Pace DSE is made by TUN-modelbau, I think. I'd love to hear from someone who's flown it, particularly how strong it is and whether it can withstand reasonable DS speeds. It looks more fragile than the Opus and Blade.

Thanks for your help guys! We are all one big international research team!

I think you don´t talk about this: :p

but this:

You can see - it is only a half wing ... it was a attempt to built a Blade with own moulds. But it was too heavy, and a lot of work, less time .... so I sold the moulds .....

The version you can buy is not as strong, but it is also not necessary! It is important to fly the Blade "light" for more fun!
